SUPPORT TO THE SOS VILLAGE COMMUNITY ‘BURU BURU’
The SOS village community Buru Buru is a loving home to 140 children, who are not able to live with their biological families. In 2014 SOS Children’s Villages invited Remee S. Jackman and Mathilde Gøhler to visit Buru Buru and Nairobi’s slum. Experiencing the heartbreaking conditions for the orphans in the slum was a game changer, especially to Remee S. Jackman who is a former orphan himself.
A NEW LIFE
During the first trip it became obvious to Remee S. Jackman what a big difference you can make in a child’s life by giving it a loving SOS mother and family. He started fundraising for the vulnerable families in the slum and upgraded the village of Buru Buru. With donations from friends, family and caring spirits all over the world MY FOUNDATION has managed to raise money that have been used to integrate music and knowledge into the everyday life of Buru Buru.
MY FOUNDATION DONATIONS HAVE SUPPORTED:
• Musical education of the children in the Buru Buru village through instruments and hiring of a music teacher
• Movement and joy for the children of the village with dance facilities and a dance teacher
• More sports in the children’s village with new football jerseys and soccer boots
• Extensive renovation as well as furniture and decor for the library
• Modernization of IT premises as well as IT education for all children in Buru Buru
• A new water borehole
The projects helped strengthen the children of Buru Buru. They have been given the space to nurture their creative sides and their desire to learn about things other than what they learn in school. The creative aspect of interaction with knowledge and physical activity allows the children to develop, find confidence and establish friendships across classes and age groups. At the same time, the projects give the children a sense of community and belonging, and a feeling of courage and confidence. A new music room and a lot of instruments have made everyday life fun and made new dreams come to true.
In 2019 multi-building for IT, library, dance and music was consecrated.
